US NAVY M58 Chambray Shirts, Repro.(M.O.C.)
The film "The Sand Pebbles" is set in China in 1926. "S. McQueen" plays the role of First Class Engineer "Jake Holman". The presence of the Chambray Shirt stained with machine oil, along with the character of "McQueen", left a strong impression on the viewer. Following the M43 Chambray Shirts we reproduced in 2013, the M58 Chambray Shirts have now been completed. Its features are the two-piece sleeves that are only found in this model, the slightly rounded bottom line of the pockets, the hem with gussets, the long sharp shape stand collar. A complete reproduction of the "US NAVY M58 Chambray Shirt", which is deeply influenced by the specifications of the 40s, is now completed! !

1) Collar:
The M58 Chambray Shirts feature a long sharp shape stand collar.
2) Marking:
The contract number "DA-36243-QM(CTM)-2654" marked on the inside of the rear center collar indicates that this shirt was delivered under contract in 1958, and the size is marked on the first line.
The two-digit number stamped in blue under the collar is the inspector's serial number.
3) Two-Piece Sleeves:
A typical shirt sleeve is sewn together in one go from the body to the sleeve bottom, but the M58 Chambray uses a method where the added sleeve part is sewn together and then the body and sleeve are sewn together at the same time, just like a shirt sleeve. The reason for adding a sleeve part is to allow more room for bending and stretching the arms. Unfortunately, the two-piece sleeve was a limited edition only for this model, and it seems that they went back to normal shirt sleeves after that, perhaps to cut costs.
4) Pocket:
The pocket features a slightly rounded bottom line. This is thought to be the final model without a flap.
5) Hem with Gussets:
The bottom seam of the front and back body is reinforced with a triangular gusset. This is thought to be the final model of the gusseted Chambray Shirt.
6) Button:
14mm diameter, two-hole, urea resin button. There are some variations in color, but this type of button have been used on most Chambray Shirts from the 40 - 50s.
7) Buttonhole:
Buttonholes, also known as shirt holes, are commonly seen on Chambray Shirts from the 40 - 50s.
8) Chain Stitch:
The front and back body panels are sewn together with a double chain stitch of 1/4 inch (approximately 6.4 mm) wide.
9) Chambray Fabric:
Chambray fabric is woven with indigo-dyed uneven yarn in the warp direction and unbleached yarn in the weft direction, and is 5.3 ounces, the same as War time.
